Rather than create a barrier to the life of the neighborhood beyond, this enclosure attempts to engage and enliven the sidewalk and street. Rich, beautiful ipe boards run horizontally along the busy street side, with gaps and reflections that hint to life on both sides. A translucent vehicular gate acts as a movie screen, capturing silhouettes of passersby and glowing lights from moving cars. On the garden side, a horizontal lattice plays with light and pattern along a narrow green space and fire pit area. Mirrors reflect the ferns and trees offering an illusion of depth.
